September 2010
Dear Parents, En
Espanol
We will be covering the following physical education,
nutrition, and health topics this month in the Healthy and Wise publication:
Physical Education
Nutrition
Health
-
Get Ready for Cold and Flu Season
-
Your Muscular System
-
National Preparedness Month
-
Getting Along with Others
We hope you enjoy this month’s featured articles and
activities. Please help your child
complete the assigned home connection activities from the Healthy and Wise
publication. Consider doing some of
the additional activities below:
- If your child has never participated in an organized fall sport, you
might want to explore the league opportunities in your community this month.
- Encourage your child to make the most of his/her recess time at school
by being active.
- While putting away groceries, ask your child to locate the Nutrition
Facts Labels on various packaged foods. Have older children find the serving
size and calorie content of some of the foods.
- As a family, brainstorm healthy breakfast ideas. Go to the grocery store together and let each family member
choose a healthy breakfast item that he/she can easily prepare.
- Discuss the benefits of getting a flu shot and determine if this is a
good option for you or other family members.
- Put together an emergency kit that includes the essential items you
might need in the event of a natural disaster or other type of incident.
- Visit with your child about the importance of getting along with others.
Acknowledge and praise your child when they demonstrate good conflict
resolution skills.
